Biophilic design is a harmonious balance between nature, sustainability and wellbeing in real estate buildings and interiors. What is biophilia? It’s about bringing the outside world in to enhance the mental and physical health benefits of spending time in a building while minimizing its environmental impact.
The best examples of biophilic design not only look good, they integrate human wellbeing and environmental health, using nature as the glue to bind them together. This is one small but important tool in our wellness interior and healthy building toolkit.

By using wellbeing design principles and evidence-based design we bring together the latest thinking in wellness lighting, enhanced indoor air quality, acoustics planning, healthy material choices and multi-sensory design to create interior spaces maximized for mental and physical wellbeing.
We also integrate thermal comfort (temperature), olfactory comfort (odors), and visual comfort (glare, visibility, distractions) in wellbeing interiors to enhance mental and physical wellbeing. Relevant certifications include WELL and RESET.

From concept development and planning, construction, fit-out and operational phases, we help minimize the environmental impact of a building interior. To do this we consider its energy, water and waste efficiency; indoor air quality; materials selection; nature based biophilic design'; the supply chain and wellness features.
This work can be done by playing the role of external design consultants advising architects and interior designers, or by taking on the design task ourselves. We are extremely comfortable with both options.
HEALTHY BUILDING STRATEGY
A healthy building or wellness real estate strategy might incorporate HVAC ventilation rates and high-performance air filters; healthy interior materials; eco cleaning policies; healthy building signage, entryway systems, active travel facilities, active design interventions and dedicated spaces for physical exercise (such as fitness rooms) and mental rest (‘quiet rooms’ a.k.a. ‘respite rooms’).
A healthy building plan involves the developer or owner, Human Resources, interior designers, facilities management and, in some cases, engages tenants as well. Relevant certifications include WELL and FITWEL.
